Jeremiah
43.
1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Jeremiah Taken to Egypt. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.
It happened that, when Jeremiah
had made an end of speaking to all the people all the words of YHWH their
ELOHIM, with which YHWH their ELOHIM had sent him to them, even all these
words,
2 then spoke Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and
Yochanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying to Jeremiah, You
speak falsely: YHWH our ELOHIM has not sent you to say, You shall not go into
Egypt to live there;
3 but Baruch the son of Neriah sets you on
against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Kasdim, that they may put us to
death, and carry us away captive to Babylon.
4 So Yochanan the son of Kareah, and all the
captains of the forces, and all the people, didn’t obey the voice of YHWH, to
dwell in the land of Judah.
5 But Yochanan the son of Kareah, and all the
captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, who were returned from
all the nations where they had been driven, to live in the land of Judah;
6 the men, and the women, and the children, and
the king’s daughters, and every person who Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard
had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan; and Jeremiah the
prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah;
7 and they came into the land of Egypt; for
they didn’t obey the voice of YHWH: and they came to Tahpanhes.
8 Then came the word of YHWH to Jeremiah in
Tahpanhes, saying,
9 Take great stones in your hand, and hide them
in mortar in the brick work, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in
Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;
10 and tell them, Thus says YHWH of Hosts, the
ELOHIM of Israel: Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of
Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have
hidden; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.
11 He shall come, and shall strike the land of
Egypt; such as are for death shall be given to death, and such as are for captivity
to captivity, and such as are for the sword to the sword.
12 I will kindle a fire in the houses of the
idol_gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captive: and he
shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment;
and he shall go forth from there in peace.
13 He shall also break the pillars of Beth
Shemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the idol_gods of Egypt
shall he burn with fire.
Jeremiah
44.
1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Israelites Will Be Punished in
Egypt. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.
The word that came to Jeremiah
concerning all the Jews who lived in the land of Egypt, who lived at Migdol,
and at Tahpanhes, and at Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,
2 Thus says YHWH of Hosts, the ELOHIM of
Israel: You have seen all the evil that I have brought on Jerusalem, and on all
the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man
dwells therein,
3 because of their wickedness which they have
committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, and to
serve other idol_gods, that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your
fathers.
4 However I sent to you all my servants the
prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, don’t do this
abominable thing that I hate.
5 But they didn’t listen, nor inclined their
ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other idol_gods.
6 Therefore my wrath and my anger was poured
forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem;
and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.
7 Therefore now thus says YHWH, the ELOHIM of
Hosts, the ELOHIM of Israel: Why do you commit great evil against your own
souls, to cut off from yourselves man and woman, infant and nursing child out
of the midst of Judah, to leave yourselves none remaining;
8 in that you provoke me to anger with the
works of your hands, burning incense to other idol_gods in the land of Egypt,
where you have gone to live; that you may be cut off, and that you may be a
curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?
9 Have you forgotten the wickedness of your
fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their
wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives which they
committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 They are not humbled even to this day,
neither have they feared, nor walked in my Torah (teaching and instruction),
nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.
11 Therefore thus says YHWH of Hosts, the
ELOHIM of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut
off all Judah.
12 I will take the remnant of Judah, that have
set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they shall all
be consumed; in the land of Egypt shall they fall; they shall be consumed by
the sword and by the famine; they shall die, from the least even to the
greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they shall be an object of horror,
and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.
13 For I will punish those who dwell in the
land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and
by the pestilence;
14 so that none of the remnant of Judah, who
have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, shall escape or be left, to
return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell
there: for none shall return save such as shall escape.
15 Then all the men who knew that their wives
burned incense to other idol_gods, and all the women who stood by, a great
assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros,
answered Jeremiah, saying,
16 As for the word that you have spoken to us
in the name of YHWH, we will not listen to you.
17 But we will certainly perform every word
that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky,
and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers,
our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of
Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.
18 But since we left off burning incense to the
queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have wanted all
things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
19 When we burned incense to the queen of the
sky, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship
her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?
20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, to the
men, and to the women, even to all the people who had given him an answer,
saying,
21 The incense that you burned in the cities of
Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and
your princes, and the people of the land, didn’t YHWH remember them, and didn’t
it come into his mind?
22 so that YHWH could no longer bear, because
of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which you have
committed; therefore your land has become a desolation, and an astonishment, and
a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.
23 Because you have burned incense, and because
you have sinned against YHWH, and have not obeyed the voice of YHWH, nor walked
in his Torah (teaching and instruction), nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies;
therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is this day.
24 Moreover Jeremiah said to all the people,
and to all the women, Hear the word of YHWH, all Judah who are in the land of
Egypt:
25 Thus says YHWH of Hosts, the ELOHIM of
Israel, saying, You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and with
your hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we
have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink
offerings to her: establish then your vows, and perform your vows.
26 Therefore hear the word of YHWH, all Judah
who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says
YHWH, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in
all the land of Egypt, saying, As ADONAI YHWH lives.
27 Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not
for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be
consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.
28 Those who escape the sword shall return out
of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant
of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, shall know whose
word shall stand, mine, or theirs.
29 This shall be the sign to you, says YHWH,
that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words shall
surely stand against you for evil:
30 Thus says YHWH, Behold, I will give Pharaoh
Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of those
who seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of
Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy, and sought his life.
Psalms
140.
1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. To the Chief Musician. A Psalm
of David.. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.
For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. Deliver me, YHWH, from the evil man. Preserve me from the violent man;
2 those who devise mischief in their
hearts. They continually gather
themselves together for war.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a
serpent. Viper’s poison is under their
lips. Selah.
4 YHWH, keep me from the hands of the
wicked. Preserve me from the violent
men who have determined to trip my feet.
5 The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the
path. They have set traps for me. Selah.
6 I said to YHWH, “You are my ELOHIM!” Listen to the cry of my petitions, YHWH!
7 YHWH, ADONAI, the strength of my
salvation, you have covered my head in
the day of battle.
8 YHWH, don’t grant the desires of the
wicked. Don’t let their evil plans
succeed, or they will become proud.
Selah.
9 As for the head of those who surround
me, let the mischief of their own lips
cover them.
10 Let burning coals fall on them. Let them be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, from where they never rise.
11 An evil speaker won’t be established in the
earth. Evil will hunt the violent man
to overthrow him.
12 I know that YHWH will maintain the cause of
the afflicted, and justice for the
needy.
13 Surely the righteous will give thanks to your
name. The upright will dwell in your
presence.
Proverbs
8.
1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. The Excellence of Wisdom. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.
Doesn’t wisdom cry out? Doesn’t understanding raise her voice?
2 On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands.
3 Beside the gates, at the entry of the
city, at the entry doors, she cries
aloud:
4 “To you men, I call! I send my voice to the sons of mankind.
5 You simple, understand prudence. You fools, be of an understanding heart.
6 Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things.
7 For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are in
righteousness. There is nothing crooked
or perverse in them.
9 They are all plain to him who
understands, right to those who find
knowledge.
10 Receive my instruction rather than
silver; knowledge rather than choice
gold.
11 For wisdom is better than rubies. All the things that may be desired can’t be
compared to it.
12 “I, wisdom, have made prudence my
dwelling. Find out knowledge and
discretion.
13 The fear of YHWH is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and
the perverse mouth.
14 Counsel and sound knowledge are mine. I have understanding and power.
15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.
16 By me princes rule; nobles, and all the righteous rulers of the
earth.
17 I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me.
18 With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine
gold; my yield than choice silver.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice;
21 That I may give wealth to those who love
me. I fill their treasuries.
22 “YHWH possessed me in the beginning of his
work, before his deeds of old.
23 I was set up from everlasting, from the
beginning, before the earth existed.
24 When there were no depths, I was brought
forth, when there were no springs
abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains were settled in
place, before the hills, I was brought
forth;
26 while as yet he had not made the earth, nor
the fields, nor the beginning of the
dust of the world.
27 When he established the heavens, I was
there; when he set a circle on the
surface of the deep,
28 when he established the clouds above, when the springs of the deep became strong,
29 when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his
commandment, when he marked out the
foundations of the earth;
30 then I was the craftsman by his side. I was a delight day by day, always rejoicing before him,
31 Rejoicing in his whole world. My delight was with the sons of men.
32 “Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction, and be wise. Don’t refuse it.
34 Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts.
35 For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from YHWH!
36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own
soul. All those who hate me love
death.”
