Shabbat
HaChodesh:
Exodus
12:1-20.
1 . The Passover Instituted.
.
YHWH spoke to Moses and Aaron in
the land of Egypt, saying,
2 “This month shall be to you the beginning of
months. It shall be the first month of the year to you.
3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel,
saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month, they shall take to them every man a
lamb, according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household;
4 and if the household is too little for a
lamb, then he and his neighbor next to his house shall take one according to
the number of the souls; according to what everyone can eat you shall make your
count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a
year old. You shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats:
6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth
day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel
shall kill it at evening.
7 They shall take some of the blood, and put it
on the two doorposts and on the lintel, on the houses in which they shall eat
it.
8 They shall eat the flesh in that night,
roasted with fire, and unleavened bread. They shall eat it with bitter herbs.
9 Don’t eat it raw, nor boiled at all with
water, but roasted with fire; with its head, its legs and its inner parts.
10 You shall let nothing of it remain until the
morning; but that which remains of it until the morning you shall burn with
fire.
11 This is how you shall eat it: with your belt
on your waist, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you
shall eat it in haste: it is YHWH’s Passover.
12 For I will go through the land of Egypt in
that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man
and animal. Against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am YHWH!
13 The blood shall be to you for a token on the
houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there
shall no plague be on you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.
14 This day shall be to you for a memorial, and
you shall keep it a feast to YHWH: throughout your generations you shall keep
it a feast by an ordinance forever.
15 “‘Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread;
even the first day you shall put away yeast out of your houses, for whoever
eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall
be cut off from Israel.
16 In the first day there shall be to you a
holy convocation, and in the seventh day a holy convocation; no kind of work
shall be done in them, except that which every man must eat, that only may be
done by you.
17 You shall observe the feast of unleavened
bread; for in this same day have I brought your armies out of the land of
Egypt: therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations by an
ordinance forever.
18 In the first month, on the fourteenth day of
the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty first
day of the month at evening.
19 Seven days shall there be no yeast found in
your houses, for whoever eats that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut
off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a foreigner, or one who is
born in the land.
20 You shall eat nothing leavened. In all your
habitations you shall eat unleavened bread.’”
Ezekiel
45:16-end.,46:1-18.
16 All the people of the land shall
give to this offering for the prince in Israel.
17 It shall be the prince’s part to give the
burnt offerings, and the meal offerings, and the drink offerings, in the
feasts, and on the new moons, and on the Sabbaths, in all the appointed feasts
of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meal
offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make atonement
for the house of Israel.
18 . Keeping the Feasts. .
Thus says ADONAI YHWH: In the
first month, in the first day of the month, you shall take a young bull without
blemish; and you shall cleanse the sanctuary.
19 The priest shall take of the blood of the
sin offering, and put it on the door posts of the house, and on the four
corners of the ledge of the altar, and on the posts of the gate of the inner
court.
20 So you shall do on the seventh day of the
month for everyone who errs, and for him who is simple: so you shall make
atonement for the house.
21 In the first month, in the fourteenth day of
the month, you shall have the Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread
shall be eaten.
22 On that day shall the prince prepare for
himself and for all the people of the land a bull for a sin offering.
23 The seven days of the feast he shall prepare
a burnt offering to YHWH, seven bulls and seven rams without blemish daily the
seven days; and a male goat daily for a sin offering.
24 He shall prepare a meal offering, an efah
for a bull, and an efah for a ram, and a hin of oil to an efah.
25 In the seventh month, in the fifteenth day
of the month, in the feast, shall he do the like the seven days; according to
the sin offering, according to the burnt offering, and according to the meal
offering, and according to the oil.
1 . The Manner of Worship. .
Thus says ADONAI YHWH: The gate of the inner court that looks
toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the Sabbath day it
shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.
2 The prince shall enter by the way of the
porch of the gate outside, and shall stand by the post of the gate; and the
priests shall prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall
worship at the threshold of the gate: then he shall go forth; but the gate shall
not be shut until the evening.
3 The people of the land shall worship at the
door of that gate before YHWH on the Sabbaths and on the new moons.
4 The burnt offering that the prince shall
offer to YHWH shall be on the Sabbath day six lambs without blemish and a ram
without blemish;
5 and the meal offering shall be an efah for
the ram, and the meal offering for the lambs as he is able to give, and a hin
of oil to an efah.
6 On the day of the new moon it shall be a
young bull without blemish, and six lambs, and a ram; they shall be without
blemish:
7 and he shall prepare a meal offering, an efah
for the bull, and an efah for the ram, and for the lambs according as he is
able, and a hin of oil to an efah.
8 When the prince shall enter, he shall go in
by the way of the porch of the gate, and he shall go forth by its way.
9 But when the people of the land shall come
before YHWH in the appointed feasts, he who enters by the way of the north gate
to worship shall go forth by the way of the south gate; and he who enters by
the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall
not return by the way of the gate by which he came in, but shall go forth
straight before him.
10 The prince, when they go in, shall go in
with of them; and when they go out, he shall go out.
11 In the feasts and in the solemnities the
meal offering shall be an efah for a bull, and an efah for a ram, and for the
lambs as he is able to give, and a hin of oil to an efah.
12 When the prince shall prepare a freewill
offering, a burnt offering or peace offerings as a freewill offering to YHWH,
one shall open for him the gate that looks toward the east; and he shall
prepare his burnt offering and his peace offerings, as he does on the Sabbath
day: then he shall go forth; and after his going forth one shall shut the gate.
13 You shall prepare a lamb a year old without
blemish for a burnt offering to YHWH daily: morning by morning you shall
prepare it.
14 You shall prepare a meal offering with it
morning by morning, the sixth part of an efah, and the third part of a hin of
oil, to moisten the fine flour; a meal offering to YHWH continually by a
perpetual ordinance.
15 Thus shall they prepare the lamb, and the
meal offering, and the oil, morning by morning, for a continual burnt offering.
16 . The Prince and Inheritance Teaching
and Instructions. .
Thus says ADONAI YHWH: If the
prince give a gift to any of his sons, it is his inheritance, it shall belong
to his sons; it is their possession by inheritance.
17 But if he give of his inheritance a gift to
one of his servants, it shall be his to the year of liberty; then it shall
return to the prince; but as for his inheritance, it shall be for his sons.
18 Moreover the prince shall not take of the
people’s inheritance, to thrust them out of their possession; he shall give
inheritance to his sons out of his own possession, that my people not be
scattered every man from his possession.

Shabbat HaChodesh ("Sabbath [of the] month" שבת
החודש) precedes the first of the Hebrew month of
Nisan during which Passover is celebrated. Exodus 12:1-20 and the laws of
Passover. On the first day of Nisan, God presented the first commandment of how
to "sanctify the new moon" (kiddush hachodesh) for the onset of Rosh
Chodesh and thus Nisan becomes the first month of the Jewish year (counting by
months.).
