Morning Reading:

Leviticus 16.

1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. The Day of Atonement. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

YHWH spoke to Moses, after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they drew near before YHWH, and died;
2 and YHWH said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother, not to come at all times into the Most Holy Place within the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark; lest he die: for I will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat.
3 “Herewith shall Aaron come into the sanctuary: with a young bull for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.
4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be clothed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.
5 He shall take from the congregation of the children of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.
6 “Aaron shall offer the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house.
7 He shall take the two goats, and set them before YHWH at the door of the Tent of Meeting.
8 Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats; one lot for YHWH, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9 Aaron shall present the goat on which the lot fell for YHWH, and offer him for a sin offering.
10 But the goat, on which the lot fell for the scapegoat, shall be presented alive before YHWH, to make atonement for him, to send him away for the scapegoat into the wilderness.
11 “Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the bull of the sin offering which is for himself.
12 He shall take a censer full of coals of fire from off the altar before YHWH, and two handfuls of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the veil:
13 and he shall put the incense on the fire before YHWH, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the testimony, so that he will not die.
14 He shall take some of the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it with his finger on the mercy seat on the east; and before the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.
15 “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering, that is for the people, and bring his blood within the veil, and do with his blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat, and before the mercy seat:
16 and he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleanness of the children of Israel, and because of their transgressions, even all their sins; and so he shall do for the Tent of Meeting, that dwells with them in the midst of their uncleanness.
17 No one shall be in the Tent of Meeting when he enters to make atonement in the Holy Place, until he comes out, and has made atonement for himself and for his household, and for all the assembly of Israel.
18 “He shall go out to the altar that is before YHWH and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the bull’s blood, and some of the goat’s blood, and put it around on the horns of the altar.
19 He shall sprinkle some of the blood on it with his finger seven times, and cleanse it, and make it holy from the uncleanness of the children of Israel.
20 “When he has made an end of atoning for the Holy Place, the Tent of Meeting, and the altar, he shall present the live goat.
21 Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, even all their sins; and he shall put them on the head of the goat, and shall send him away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is in readiness.
22 The goat shall carry all their iniquities on himself to a solitary land, and he shall let the goat go in the wilderness.
23 “Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting, and shall take off the linen garments, which he put on when he went into the Holy Place, and shall leave them there.
24 Then he shall bathe himself in water in a holy place, and put on his garments, and come out and offer his burnt offering and the burnt offering of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people.
25 The fat of the sin offering he shall burn on the altar.
26 “He who lets the goat go for the scapegoat shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
27 The bull for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place, shall be carried forth outside the camp; and they shall burn their skins, their flesh, and their dung with fire.
28 He who burns them shall wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp.
29 “It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall afflict your souls, and shall do no kind of work, the native-born, or the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you:
30 for on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before YHWH!
31 It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls; it is a statute forever.
32 The priest, who is anointed and who is consecrated to be priest in his father’s place, shall make the atonement, and shall put on the linen garments, even the holy garments.
33 Then he shall make atonement for the Holy Sanctuary; and he shall make atonement for the Tent of Meeting and for the altar; and he shall make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly.
34 “This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel once in the year because of all their sins.” It was done as YHWH commanded Moses.

Numbers 29:7-11.

7 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Offerings on the Day of Atonement. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

“‘On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; and you shall afflict your souls: you shall do no kind of work;
8 but you shall offer a burnt offering to YHWH for a pleasant aroma: one young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old; they shall be to you without blemish;
9 and their meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil, three tenth parts for the bull, two tenth parts for the one ram,
10 a tenth part for every lamb of the seven lambs:
11 one male goat for a sin offering; besides the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meal offering of it, and their drink offerings.

Isaiah 57:14-to-end,58:1-14.

14 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Healing for the Backslider. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

He will say, “Cast up, cast up, prepare the way,  take up the stumbling-block out of the way of my people.”
15 For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:  “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
16 For I will not contend forever, neither will I be always angry; for the spirit would faint before me, and the souls who I have made.
17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I angry, and struck him; I hid myself and was angry; and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.
18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners.
19 I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace, to him who is far off and to him who is near,” says YHWH; “and I will heal them.”
20 But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it can’t rest, and its waters cast up mire and dirt.
21 “There is no peace,” says my ELOHIM, “for the wicked.”

1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Fasting that Pleases ELOHIM. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

“Cry aloud, don’t spare, lift up your voice like a shofar, and declare to my people their disobedience, and to the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness, and didn’t forsake the ordinance of their ELOHIM, they ask of me righteous judgments; they delight to draw near to ELOHIM!
3 ‘Why have we fasted,’ say they, ‘and you don’t see? Why have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge?’    “Behold, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and exact all your labors.
4 Behold, you fast for strife and contention, and to strike with the fist of wickedness: you don’t fast this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high.
5 Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to YHWH?
6 “Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?
7 Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?
8 Then your light shall break forth as the morning, and your healing shall spring forth speedily; and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of YHWH shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and YHWH will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’    “If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;
10 and if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then your light shall rise in darkness, and your obscurity be as the noonday;
11 and YHWH will guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in dry places, and make strong your bones; and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters don’t fail.
12 Those who shall be of you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
13 “If you turn away your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, and the holy of YHWH honorable; and shall honor it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words:
14 then you shall delight yourself in YHWH; and I will make you to ride on the high places of the earth; and I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father:”  for the mouth of YHWH has spoken it.

3PM Reading:

Leviticus 18.

1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Teaching and Instructions of Sexual Morality. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

YHWH said to Moses,
2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘I am YHWH your ELOHIM!
3 You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived: and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you; neither shall you walk in their statutes.
4 You shall do my ordinances, and you shall keep my statutes, and walk in them: I am YHWH your ELOHIM!
5 You shall therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances; which if a man does, he shall live in them: I am YHWH!
6 “‘None of you shall approach anyone who are his close relatives, to uncover their nakedness: I am YHWH!
7 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, nor the nakedness of your mother: she is your mother. You shall not uncover her nakedness.
8 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife: it is your father’s nakedness.
9 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home, or born abroad.
10 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son’s daughter, or of your daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness: for theirs is your own nakedness.
11 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, conceived by your father, since she is your sister.
12 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister: she is your father’s near kinswoman.
13 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister: for she is your mother’s near kinswoman.
14 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother, you shall not approach his wife: she is your aunt.
15 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law: she is your son’s wife. You shall not uncover her nakedness.
16 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife: it is your brother’s nakedness.
17 “‘You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter. You shall not take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
18 “‘You shall not take a wife to her sister, to be a rival, to uncover her nakedness, while her sister is yet alive.
19 “‘You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is impure by her uncleanness.
20 “‘You shall not lie carnally with your neighbor’s wife, and defile yourself with her.
21 “‘You shall not give any of your children to sacrifice to Molech; neither shall you profane the name of your ELOHIM: I am YHWH!
22 “‘You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman. That is detestable.
23 “‘You shall not lie with any animal to defile yourself with it; neither shall any woman give herself to an animal, to lie down with it: it is a perversion.
24 “‘Don’t defile yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled.
25 The land was defiled: therefore I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out her inhabitants.
26 You therefore shall keep my statutes and my ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations; neither the native-born, nor the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you;
27 (for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before you, and the land became defiled);
28 that the land not vomit you out also, when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.
29 “‘For whoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people.
30 Therefore you shall keep my requirements, that you do not practice any of these abominable customs, which were practiced before you, and that you do not defile yourselves with them: I am YHWH your ELOHIM!’”

Jonah 1.,2.,3.,4:1-11.

1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Jonah's Disobedience. .              Jonah! \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

Now the word of YHWH came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.”
3 But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of YHWH! He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid its fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of YHWH!

4
\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. The Storm at Sea. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

But YHWH sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.
5 Then the mariners were afraid, and every man cried to his god. They threw the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone down into the innermost parts of the ship, and he was laying down, and was fast asleep.
6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your ELOHIM! Maybe your ELOHIM will notice us, so that we won’t perish.”
7 They all said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots, that we may know who is responsible for this evil that is on us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
8 Then they asked him, “Tell us, please, for whose cause this evil is on us. What is your occupation? Where do you come from? What is your country? Of what people are you?”
9 He said to them, “I am a Hebrew, and I fear YHWH, the ELOHIM of heaven, who has made the sea and the dry land.”

10
\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Jonah Thrown into the Sea. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said to him, “What is this that you have done?” For the men knew that he was fleeing from the presence of YHWH, because he had told them.
11 Then they said to him, “What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.
12 He said to them, “Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.”
13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them.
14 Therefore they cried to YHWH, and said, “We beg you, YHWH, we beg you, don’t let us die for this man’s life, and don’t lay on us innocent blood; for you, YHWH, have done as it pleased you.”
15 So they took up Jonah, and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging.
16 Then the men feared YHWH exceedingly; and they offered a sacrifice to YHWH, and made vows.

17
\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Jonah's Prayer and Deliverance. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

YHWH prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

1 Then Jonah prayed to YHWH, his ELOHIM, out of the fish’s belly.
2 He said,  “I called because of my affliction to YHWH!  He answered me.  Out of the belly of Sheol I cried.  You heard my voice.
3 For you threw me into the depths,  in the heart of the seas.  The flood was all around me.  All your waves and your billows passed over me.
4 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight;  yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’
5 The waters surrounded me,  even to the soul.  The deep was around me.  The weeds were wrapped around my head.
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains.  The earth barred me in forever:  yet have you brought up my life from the pit, YHWH my ELOHIM!
7 “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered YHWH!  My prayer came in to you, into your holy temple.
8 Those who regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice to you with the voice of thanksgiving.  I will pay that which I have vowed.  Salvation belongs to YHWH!”
10 YHWH spoke to the fish, and it vomited out Jonah on the dry land.

1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Jonah Preaches at Nineveh. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

The word of YHWH came to Jonah the second time, saying,
2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim to it the message that I give you.”
3 So Jonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of YHWH! Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, three days’ journey across.
4 Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried out, and said, “In forty days, Nineveh will be overthrown!”

5
\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. The People of Nineveh Believe. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

The people of Nineveh believed ELOHIM; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even to their least.
6 The news reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 He made a proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, “Let neither man nor animal, herd nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, nor drink water;
8 but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and animal, and let them cry mightily to ELOHIM! Yes, let them turn everyone from his evil way, and from the violence that is in his hands.
9 Who knows whether ELOHIM will not turn and relent, and turn away from his fierce anger, so that we might not perish?”
10 ELOHIM saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. ELOHIM relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he didn’t do it.

1 \Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnestLOW”\. Jonah's Anger and ELOHIM's Kindness. .\Vce=Speaker=“LeslieEarnest”\.

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry.
2 He prayed to YHWH, and said, “Please, YHWH, wasn’t this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious ELOHIM, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.
3 Therefore now, YHWH, take, I beg you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.”
4 YHWH said, “Is it right for you to be angry?”
5 Then Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made himself a booth, and sat under it in the shade, until he might see what would become of the city.
6 YHWH ELOHIM prepared a vine, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to deliver him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the vine.
7 But ELOHIM prepared a worm at dawn the next day, and it chewed on the vine, so that it withered.
8 It happened, when the sun arose, that ELOHIM prepared a sultry east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he fainted, and requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”
9 ELOHIM said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry about the vine?” He said, “I am right to be angry, even to death.”
10 YHWH said, “You have been concerned for the vine, for which you have not labored, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night.
11 Shouldn’t I be concerned for Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred twenty thousand persons who can’t discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much livestock?”

Micah 7:18-20.

18 Who is an EL like you, who pardons iniquity,  and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage?  He doesn’t retain his anger forever,  because he delights in loving kindness.
19 He will again have compassion on us.  He will tread our iniquities under foot;  and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
20 You will give truth to Jacob,  and mercy to Abraham,  as you have sworn to our ers from the days of old.
